๐ฟ Git 2.56 released with 748 commits LINK
- Git 2.56 is out, landing 748 non-merge commits from 104 developers since 2.55 shipped in June, with new features spanning conflict resolution, repacking, reference management, and history editing.
- `git add --resolved` now stages conflict-resolved paths while leaving unrelated changes untouched, aborting if it finds leftover conflict markers, and the experimental `git history` command gained a `drop` subcommand that removes a commit and replays its descendants onto the parent.
- Everyday commands change too: running `git push origin/main` or `git branch origin main` now triggers typo-fix advice, `-h`/`--help` exits 0 instead of 129 to match Unix convention, and `git branch --delete-merged` clears branches already merged upstream.
๐ Google SDK bug crashes iOS apps LINK
- A defect in Google's Firebase SDK crashed thousands of iOS apps at launch today, blindsiding developers who watched their crash counts spike with no clear cause on their end.
- The fault traced to Google Analytics for Firebase on iOS, which so many apps rely on for backend and analytics that they began failing simultaneously, prompting a wave of panicked reports on the Firebase GitHub issue tracker.
- Google shipped a fix a couple of hours later and crash numbers fell, but warned that caching could keep some apps crashing for up to four hours afterward; the company hasn't explained the root cause and the status dashboard logged no incident.
๐ค Sonnet 5.5 nearly matches Opus LINK
- Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5, a mid-tier model that generates output over 30% faster and costs up to 30% less per task while nearly matching the higher-end Opus 5.5 across several coding and knowledge-work benchmarks.
- The gains are largest in coding: Sonnet 5.5 scores 70.6% on agentic-coding Terminal-Bench 4.0 versus Sonnet 5's 10.3%, and hits 55.5% on CursorBench 4.0, landing just two points behind Opus 5.5 at roughly one-fifteenth the per-task cost on FrontierCode.
- Priced identically to Sonnet 5 ($2 input, $10 output per million tokens) and live now on AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure via model ID "claude-sonnet-5-5," it ships with a first-for-Sonnet safeguard that reroutes high-risk cybersecurity requests to Sonnet 5.
๐จ Forge builds SDKs from your API LINK
- Cloudflare has open-sourced Forge, a pluggable pipeline under Apache 2.0 that generates SDKs, CLIs, docs, and libraries from an API spec, and already produces the output for the cf CLI it's building for Cloudflare's API.
- Forge runs in CI on each team's repos, linting every change and producing preview builds of the CLI, docs, and SDKs with just your edits highlighted, tackling an API of over 3,500 operations spread across hundreds of services.
- Its chainable transformers can target more than standard languages, generating Cap'n Web RPC, TanStack Query bindings, or Zod schemas from an OpenAPI spec, and it takes OpenAPI as input today, with AsyncAPI, GraphQL, and Protobuf planned.
๐ Atlassian rebuilds metrics on OpenTelemetry LINK
- Atlassian rebuilt its metrics platform, serving about 100,000 hosts across 14 regions, on OpenTelemetry, swapping out gostatsd internals while keeping the existing StatsD-over-UDP endpoint so thousands of services never had to re-instrument during the switch.
- The team split the pipeline into four Collector stages for collection, ingest, aggregation and forwarding; folding metrics into the tracing sidecar cut sidecar cost by roughly 30% fleet-wide, and its open-sourced delta aggregation processor drops data volume by about 96%, from 4.8 billion points a minute to 220 million.
- Because gostatsd aggregation and the nomad proxy still consume about 38% of CPU in metrics clusters, removing them completes the pipeline; Atlassian's next step is migrating application instrumentation from StatsD, DogStatsD and vendor clients to OpenTelemetry SDKs.
โก simdjson 5.0 released LINK
- simdjson 5.0 has shipped, making C++26 static reflection an officially supported feature that turns C++ structs into JSON and back with no glue code, auto-detected when the compiler enables reflection.
- New compile-time key selectors let you name fields via `for_each<"name","city","age">` and read an object in a single pass regardless of key order, using a perfect hash and one comparison per key, stopping once all are found.
- DOM parsing of escaped-Unicode files runs nearly twice as fast and number-heavy files 8-25% faster, while switching float printing from Grisu2 to Dragonbox speeds serialization up to ~1.7x; multithreaded parsing still caps at two threads.
