Auth0 Review 2026: Pricing, Pros, Cons and Alternatives

What the Free plan includes, which paid B2C plan drops enterprise SSO, and what a B2B app pays instead.

TL;DR

Auth0 is worth it on Free while passwordless login and one enterprise connection are enough, and it gets expensive the moment you need Pro MFA. B2C Essentials is $35/mo at 500 monthly active users and adds OTP and Duo, but that paid B2C plan drops the enterprise connection, self-service SSO, and SCIM that Free includes. Those same users on B2B Essentials cost $150/mo, which is the plan that keeps enterprise connections.

Professional is where enterprise MFA and a custom user database sit, and Enterprise above the published grid is a quote. Yearly billing charges 11 months, so the annual cards leave out one month of the monthly rate. For a count above those published steps, read the authentication pricing comparison.

  • Updated: October 19, 2026
  • Best for: Product teams that need customer login and will pay once MFA or B2B SSO is required.
  • Price as of October 19, 2026: Free to 25,000 MAU; B2C Essentials $35/mo and B2B Essentials $150/mo at 500 MAU.
  • Okta's customer identity product, with a large free tier and a sharp jump once Pro MFA or B2B SSO is required.
  • Free cap: The Free plan includes 25,000 monthly active users and needs no card to sign up, so a proof of concept starts before a budget.
  • Pro MFA: OTP and Duo MFA start on Essentials, not on the Free plan, so a second factor ends the free tier.
  • B2B SSO: B2B Essentials keeps the enterprise connections that paid B2C plans drop, so customer SAML cannot stay on the cheaper ladder.
  • Parent: Auth0 is Okta's customer identity product, sold separately from a workforce suite.

Pros

  • Free includes passwordless login, passkeys, five organizations, and one enterprise connection, with no card to sign up, so the demo starts before procurement.
  • B2B Essentials includes three enterprise SSO connections and unlimited organizations at the published Essentials card, which is the plan that keeps the free tier's customer login.
  • Professional adds a custom user database and enterprise MFA (phone, email, WebAuthn, and Guardian push) without a sales call.

Cons

  • Paid B2C plans drop the enterprise connection, self-service SSO, and SCIM that Free includes, so the cheaper ladder removes the SAML demo.
  • Pro MFA is not on Free, so OTP or Duo forces Essentials even when you are under the free user cap.
  • Enterprise, the 99.99% SLA, and private deployment publish no list price.

The buying question on Auth0 is which toggle you are on, because B2C and B2B are different price lists and the Free plan is the only one that looks the same on both. A consumer app that needs a second factor lands on a cheap Essentials card and loses enterprise SSO, which undoes the free proof of concept. A product that sells to companies lands on a much higher Essentials card and keeps that connection.

Toolradar data: as of October 16, 2026, Toolradar tracks 91 identity and access tools. Auth0 is listed as an alternative to 56 of them, second to Keycloak at 59, on the identity and access ranking. The directory pages for Auth0 and Clerk are the catalog records to open beside this price.

How we compared: cards, feature rows, and user tiers were read on October 16, 2026, on Auth0's pricing page and its pricing table, then on the pricing pages for Clerk, WorkOS, Stytch, Amazon Cognito, and Firebase. No tenant was created. The method is the one on how we rate.

What is Auth0?

Auth0 is Okta's customer identity platform, and it signs end users in with a database login, social providers, passwordless, and enterprise identity providers such as SAML. The pricing page calls Organizations the way Auth0 models your business customers. A workforce directory for your own employees is a different Okta product, and a workforce quote does not cover this login.

Universal Login is the hosted page users see, and custom logic is Auth0 Actions: five on Free, ten on Essentials, fifteen on Professional, and 30 on Enterprise before an add-on, so the workflow cap can force an upgrade before the user cap does. Passkeys and passwordless login (SMS, email, passkey, and one-time codes) are already on Free, so dropping passwords does not require a paid plan.

A monthly active user is any non-employee who authenticates that month on the tenant, and staff do not count, so customer sign-ins are what the bill follows.

How Auth0 works

You create a tenant, register the app, and pick a connection: Auth0's database, a social provider, or a customer's identity provider. Universal Login is the page they see, on Auth0's domain or on yours.

The plan toggle changes what that connection is allowed to be. Free includes one enterprise connection, self-service SSO, and SCIM, plus unlimited Okta enterprise connections, subject to system limits, which is enough to demo one customer's SAML login before you pay. The B2C Essentials and B2C Professional cards both carry the same footnote: upgrade to B2B to keep using those connections. The moment Pro MFA forces a B2C paid plan, that demo connection leaves the plan.

Free keeps logs for one day, Essentials for five, Professional for ten, and Enterprise for 30, so a login review cannot stay on Free, and streaming starts on Essentials. Free allows three dashboard admins, and a custom domain on Free still needs a card to verify, so the branded host is the part of Free that is not cardless.

Auth0 key features

Free includes one enterprise connection, not Pro MFAEssential
Free covers passwordless login, passkeys, social connections, five organizations, and one enterprise connection, with self-service SSO and SCIM marked new on the card. Pro MFA, which the Essentials tooltip limits to OTP and Duo, is absent until you pay.
Paid B2C drops enterprise SSOEssential
B2C Essentials and B2C Professional both say to upgrade to B2B to keep enterprise connections, self-service SSO, and SCIM. The features Free uses for a customer proof of concept are not on the paid consumer plans, so that upgrade can delete the SAML demo.
B2B Essentials is the SSO planEssential
B2B Essentials includes unlimited organizations, enterprise SSO connections, role-based access control, and Pro MFA, which is the plan when customers bring an identity provider. Extra connections and enterprise MFA are add-ons on that plan, while Professional includes enterprise MFA and lists additional connections.
Two MFA products, not one checkbox
Pro MFA is OTP and Duo, and it starts on Essentials. Enterprise MFA is phone, email, WebAuthn, and push through the Guardian app. On B2C that second set is on the Professional card. On B2B it is an add-on until Professional, so each ladder prices that prompt differently.
Tenants, logs, and machine tokens are tiered
Free is one tenant, three admins, one day of logs, and 1,000 machine-to-machine tokens, which a busy API can exhaust on Free. Essentials is three tenants and five days of logs, and Professional is twelve tenants, ten days of logs, and 5,000 machine tokens, with a token add-on.
Yearly billing drops one month
The yearly toggle is labeled one month free, so the annual bill drops that month. Enterprise, the 99.99% SLA, and private deployment stay on a sales quote.

Auth0 pricing

Auth0 publishes two paid ladders plus Free, and the toggle between them changes the bill. Prices checked on October 16, 2026 on Auth0's pricing page and the pricing table behind it. The default slider is the tier in the table below. B2C Professional is $240/mo there and B2B Professional is $800/mo, and Enterprise is contact sales on both.

At the next published step of 1,000 users, B2C Essentials is $70/mo and B2B Essentials is $300/mo. Both Professional prices stay on the default card through that step. If your count falls between published steps, Auth0 bills the next step up, so a count between rungs pays the higher one. B2B Essentials and both Professional ladders route you to sales at the 30,000-user mark.

Yearly billing is the monthly price with one month free. The B2B yearly cards show that directly: Essentials is $1,650 a year and Professional is $8,800 a year at the default tier. B2B Essentials charges $100/mo for enterprise MFA and the same amount for each enterprise connection past the ones included, up to 30, so the next identity provider is an extra line, while Professional includes five connections and enterprise MFA. Auth0 for AI Agents adds 50% to the base price.

Set a B2B app that needs the included customer identity providers against WorkOS. Auth0's next B2B Essentials step already includes those connections. WorkOS AuthKit stays free through its published user allowance, and each SSO connection in the first band is $125, so matching the connections Auth0 includes costs $375 a month before any user overage. One connection reverses it: WorkOS is that single rate, and Auth0 stays on the Essentials step. Clerk Pro is a flat fee with one SSO connection included. Stytch includes a set of SSO or SCIM connections, then charges per connection.

Amazon Cognito Essentials includes 10,000 monthly active users for direct and social sign-in, then $0.015 per user. Firebase includes email and social sign-in on Spark and Blaze, so ordinary login adds nothing to that project. Identity Platform is free to 50,000 monthly active users, then $0.0055 per user up to 100,000 on the Identity Platform price list. SAML and OIDC there are free for 50 users.

Auth0 pros and cons

What we like

  • Free includes passwordless login, passkeys, five organizations, and one enterprise connection, with no card to sign up, so the demo starts before procurement.
  • B2B Essentials includes three enterprise SSO connections and unlimited organizations at the published Essentials card, which is the plan that keeps the free tier's customer login.
  • Professional adds a custom user database and enterprise MFA (phone, email, WebAuthn, and Guardian push) without a sales call.

What could be better

  • Paid B2C plans drop the enterprise connection, self-service SSO, and SCIM that Free includes, so the cheaper ladder removes the SAML demo.
  • Pro MFA is not on Free, so OTP or Duo forces Essentials even when you are under the free user cap.
  • Enterprise, the 99.99% SLA, and private deployment publish no list price.

Who Auth0 is for

Auth0 fits a product team that wants a hosted login, social providers, and a free proof of concept with one customer identity provider. Stay on Free while passwordless and that single connection are the requirement, since the paid plans exist to add MFA. Move to B2B Essentials when a second and third customer will bring their own identity provider and you can defend that plan against WorkOS.

Skip the B2C paid plans if the reason you liked Free was the enterprise connection. Those plans are the right buy for OTP or Duo MFA, ten organizations, and a separate dev tenant, and they are the wrong buy for SAML, which leaves with the upgrade. A team that wants MFA inside a flat monthly fee, with prebuilt components, should price Clerk before it prices Professional.

Skip Auth0 when login sits on a database you already pay for. The Supabase review, the Firebase review, and the authentication pricing comparison cover that bill, and an AWS account should price Cognito before a hosted identity vendor. For the self-hosted exit, read the Appwrite review and the backend-as-a-service roundup, and subscribe free for the next plan-card change.

The bottom line

Buy Free if one enterprise connection and passwordless login are the whole requirement. Buy B2B Essentials if customers will sign in through their own identity provider and the included connections are enough. Buy B2C Essentials only when the missing piece is OTP or Duo, and you have already accepted that enterprise SSO leaves with the upgrade.

Choose WorkOS when you would rather pay per connection than climb an Auth0 tier, and choose Clerk when retained users, not monthly active users, match the audience. Choose Cognito on an existing AWS account, and Firebase Authentication when email and social login should stay in that project. Hosting is a separate bill, covered in the Vercel review, and the wider backend choice is the serverless platforms list.

Frequently asked questions

Is Auth0 worth it in 2026?

Yes, on Free, when passwordless login and a single enterprise connection are enough, because that plan pairs the connection with no charge. It is a weak buy on B2C Essentials if you still need that connection, because paid consumer plans tell you to move to B2B to keep enterprise SSO, self-service SSO, and SCIM. B2B Essentials is the buy when more than one customer identity provider is a real requirement, and the wrong buy if the only gap was a second factor.

How much does Auth0 cost?

Free is no charge up to 25,000 monthly active users. At the default 500-user tier, B2C Essentials is $35/mo and B2C Professional is $240/mo. B2B Essentials is $150/mo and B2B Professional is $800/mo, and that gap is what you pay to keep enterprise SSO. At the next published step the Essentials table lists $70/mo on B2C and $300/mo on B2B, while both Professional prices stay put. Yearly billing is 11 months, which the B2B Essentials card shows as $1,650 a year. Prices were read on Auth0's pricing page in October 2026.

Does Auth0 have a free plan?

Yes, Free needs no card, includes the published monthly user cap, and includes one enterprise connection plus self-service SSO and SCIM. It does not include Pro MFA, so OTP or Duo means Essentials. A custom domain is listed on Free and still requires a card to verify. Logs last one day, and the dashboard allows three admins.

How does Auth0 compare with Clerk and WorkOS?

Clerk Pro is $25/mo, or $20/mo billed yearly, and includes MFA plus a retained-user allowance the free plan does not have. A retained user has to come back after the first day, which is a different meter from Auth0's monthly active user. WorkOS includes MFA inside a large free user allowance and then charges $125 for each SSO connection in the first band. Auth0's advantage is the free enterprise connection on Free. Its disadvantage is the B2B Essentials jump once you need more than that one connection and also need Pro MFA.

What is the difference between Auth0 B2C and B2B?

Free is identical on both toggles, and the paid plans are not, which traps anyone who prototypes on Free and then picks the cheaper card. B2C Essentials is the lower card and adds Pro MFA, ten organizations, and a separate dev tenant, with a footnote that enterprise connections, self-service SSO, and SCIM require B2B. B2B Essentials is the higher card and includes enterprise connections and unlimited organizations. Enterprise MFA is on the B2C Professional card, and on B2B it is an add-on until Professional. Adaptive MFA and the 99.99% SLA stay on the Enterprise quote either way.
