Datadog Alternatives 2026: Cheaper Monitoring Compared at 10 Hosts

At 10 hosts, Datadog Infrastructure Pro costs $150 a month billed yearly. Grafana Cloud and New Relic free plans cover this load. Prices checked October 2026.

For 10 hosts sending infrastructure metrics, Grafana Cloud's free plan and New Relic's free plan both cost $0 a month, while Datadog Infrastructure Pro costs $150 a month on annual billing. Grafana Cloud Pro is the cheapest paid option at $19 a month on telemetry billing, and it keeps metrics for 13 months against Datadog's 15. Prices were checked on each vendor's own pricing page on October 10, 2026, in USD.

Grafana's free plan fits this load exactly at its series cap, and New Relic's fits while data stays under 100 GB. The table shows where each one stops.

Toolradar data: of the 187 monitoring tools we rank, 115 (61%) have a free plan, as of October 2026, according to our monitoring guide. Free tiers are common in this category. Their ceilings decide which one fits your host count. The wider field, ranked by billing model, is in best monitoring tools.

Cost at 10 hosts, cheapest first

Tool Entry price Cost at scenario Free plan (limits) Billing basis Hidden costs
Grafana Cloud Free Free $0 a month 10k active series, 14-day retention, 3 active users Free, no card The scenario uses the full 10k series allowance
New Relic Free Free $0 a month if data stays under 100 GB 100 GB data ingest, one full-platform user, unlimited basic users Data ingest plus full users $0.40 per GB past 100 GB; a second full user needs Standard, at $10 for the first and $99 for each more
Grafana Cloud Pro From $19 a month $19 a month None; 10k active series and 3 active users sit inside the fee Platform fee plus usage $6.50 per 1,000 series past 10k; host-hour billing would make it $69.68
Better Stack Telemetry Nano $25 a month, billed yearly $25 a month if metrics fit 40 GB No free Telemetry bundle; 40 GB each of logs, metrics and traces Bundle, $30 billed monthly Usage past the bundle is billed by GB; team members are free
SigNoz Teams $49 a month $49 a month Community edition is open source, run by you Usage included, then per sample $0.10 per million metric samples past the included usage; $0.30 per GB of logs or traces
Datadog Infrastructure Pro $15 per host a month, billed yearly $150 a month ($180 on-demand) Up to 5 hosts, 1-day metric retention Per host APM from $31 per host a month; logs $0.10 per GB ingested

Datadog's $150 is the annual figure. The same 10 hosts cost $180 a month on on-demand billing. Both free plans cost nothing here, but neither has much headroom: the 10-host load uses all of Grafana's series allowance, and New Relic's free data limit holds only if each sample is small. The arithmetic follows.

Our 10-host scenario

The buyer runs 10 always-on Linux hosts. Each host sends about 1,000 active metric series, sampled once a minute, which comes to 10,000 series and about 432 million samples a month. Three people need access, and one of them builds the dashboards and alerts. The scenario leaves out APM traces and logs, because every vendor prices those separately. Logs get their own section below.

The 1,000 series per host is our assumption, not a vendor figure. It drives the usage bills of Grafana Pro and SigNoz, so the flip points further down show what happens at other sizes.

Ten hosts is also the size where Datadog's free plan stops working. That plan covers up to 5 hosts, so a 10-host team on Datadog pays for Infrastructure Pro.

The arithmetic, shown once

Datadog. Ten hosts at $15 is $150 a month, or $1,800 a year, on annual billing. On-demand billing is $18 per host, which makes $180 a month.

Grafana Cloud Free. Ten hosts at 1,000 series each use all 10,000 active series the free plan allows, the same method as our cheaper Vercel alternatives comparison. There is no room for growth, and the free plan keeps only 14 days of data.

Grafana Cloud Pro. The platform fee includes 10,000 active series and 3 active users, so usage is zero and the bill is the platform fee alone. Each extra 1,000 series adds $6.50.

SigNoz Teams. Ten thousand series at 43,200 samples each (one per minute for 30 days) is 432 million samples. That is $43.20 of usage, which fits inside the plan's included usage, so the bill is $49 a month.

New Relic Free. The one full-platform user is free, and the two other people use basic users at no charge. Data counts toward the 100 GB monthly allowance. At 432 million samples, 100 GB holds as long as each sample averages less than about 230 bytes. New Relic does not publish bytes per sample, so the free price holds only under that threshold.

Better Stack Telemetry Nano. $25 a month billed yearly, or $30 billed monthly. The bundle includes 40 GB of metrics. Better Stack does not convert samples into GB, so the price holds only if your 10 hosts' metrics fit inside that bundle.

Grafana host hours. Grafana also bills by host hour if you opt into its curated experience. Ten hosts running 730 hours each make 7,300 host hours. The fee includes 2,232, which leaves 5,068 at $0.01 each, or $50.68. Add the platform fee and the bill is $69.68 a month. Opt out of the curated experience and billing follows telemetry alone, which is the Pro path above.

Datadog: the annual rate is the one to compare

Datadog's Infrastructure Pro is $15 per host a month billed annually and $18 on-demand, according to its pricing page. Pro includes 1,000-plus integrations, out-of-the-box dashboards and 15 months of metric retention. Enterprise is $23 per host. Some roundups quote $23 for Pro, but on the pricing page that is the Enterprise rate.

APM starts at $31 per host a month billed annually. Adding it to these 10 hosts adds $310 a month. Logs are a separate meter, billed per GB ingested with indexing on top. Our Datadog review covers the platform beyond its pricing.

Grafana Cloud: the Pro fee covers 10,000 series, with one trap

Grafana's free plan allows 10,000 active series, 14 days of retention and 3 active users. Pro starts at $19 a month, includes the same 10,000 series and 3 users, and keeps 13 months of data. Above the included series, Grafana bills $6.50 per 1,000 series. Extra active users cost $8 each beyond three. For the free allowances of hosting platforms, see cloud free tiers compared.

The trap is the billing mode. Grafana's FAQ defines a host as any operating system instance sending signals, and it says host-hour billing applies when you opt into the curated experience. For this scenario that switch moves the bill from the platform fee to $69.68 a month. Check which mode your account uses before you roll agents out across the fleet.

New Relic: free for one full user, with a data ceiling

New Relic's free plan includes 100 GB of data ingest a month, one full-platform user and unlimited basic users. Basic users can access custom dashboards, queries and alerts, which covers two of the three people in this scenario. The builder needs the full-platform user, and the free plan provides one.

On the Standard edition, the first full user costs $10 and each additional full user costs $99, up to five. New Relic's default data retention is at least 8 days. Standard support is ticketed, with a 2-business-day response target. A team that wants a support queue with a fixed response time should price that in.

SigNoz and Better Stack: flat bundles, usage on top

SigNoz Teams starts at $49 a month and includes that much usage. SigNoz says you can add unlimited teammates and monitor any number of hosts. Past the included usage, SigNoz bills $0.30 per GB of logs or traces and $0.10 per million metric samples. The open-source Community edition is the free route if you can run the stack yourself on a cheap VPS.

Better Stack's Telemetry Nano bundle is $25 a month billed yearly and $30 billed monthly. It includes 40 GB each of traces, logs and metrics, with 30 days of log retention. Team members are free on Telemetry. Better Stack also sells uptime and incident tools, which this scenario does not use. The bundle carries logs, traces and metrics under one price, which matters if you were going to buy logs anyway. Its metrics are billed by GB, so check that figure against your own agents.

Where the ranking flips

The order above holds for this scenario. Three changes would move the order or the margins.

  • Grafana Pro against SigNoz. Grafana Pro costs its platform fee plus $6.50 for each 1,000 series above 10,000. SigNoz costs $0.00432 per series a month at one-minute sampling once usage passes its included amount. The two lines cross at about 21,100 series, roughly 2,100 per host across 10 hosts. Below that, Grafana Pro is cheaper. Above it, SigNoz is.
  • Host count. Datadog scales with hosts on annual billing. Take the same 1,000 series per host to 20 hosts, and Grafana Pro is $84, SigNoz is $86.40 and Datadog is $300 a month.
  • New Relic's data line. The free plan holds while data stays under 100 GB. Past that, New Relic bills $0.40 per GB, so the data footprint, not the host count, decides when the free plan ends.

What the cheaper plans give up

  • Retention. Datadog keeps metrics for 15 months on Pro. Grafana Pro keeps 13 months, and Grafana's free plan keeps 14 days. New Relic's default is at least 8 days. SigNoz's metrics pricing offers retention from 1 to 13 months.
  • Ecosystem. Datadog lists more than 1,000 integrations. Grafana's pages name native OpenTelemetry and Prometheus support, which matters if your agents already speak those formats.
  • Support. Grafana Pro includes 8x5 email support. New Relic Standard support is ticketed with a 2-business-day response target. Datadog's support tiers sit outside this scenario.
  • Error tracking. Errors are a separate job. If you need them, price them with the metrics, starting from best error tracking tools or the Sentry review.

Logs change the answer

This scenario leaves out logs, and every vendor meters them differently. Datadog bills $0.10 per GB ingested, with indexing on top. SigNoz bills $0.30 per GB of logs. Better Stack includes 40 GB in its Nano bundle. Grafana bills logs through three meters: processing from $0.05 per GB, writes from $0.40 per GB and retention at its own rate. New Relic's 100 GB free allowance counts logs too, so a log-heavy team reaches that ceiling fast. The wider field is covered in best log management tools. Price your real log volume on each tool before you choose, because a plan that wins on metrics can lose on logs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest Datadog alternative for 10 hosts?

Grafana Cloud's free plan and New Relic's free plan both cost nothing for this load, as long as Grafana stays at 10,000 active series and New Relic stays under 100 GB of data a month. The cheapest paid plan on telemetry billing is Grafana Cloud Pro, which includes 10,000 series and keeps metrics for 13 months.

How much does Datadog cost per host in 2026?

Datadog Infrastructure Pro costs $15 per host a month billed annually or $18 on-demand, according to its pricing page, checked October 10, 2026. APM starts at $31 per host a month billed annually. Logs are billed separately per GB ingested, with indexing on top.

Is there a free Datadog alternative that covers 10 hosts?

Yes, with limits. Grafana Cloud Free allows 10,000 active series, 14 days of retention and 3 active users, which is exactly this scenario's series load. New Relic Free allows 100 GB of data ingest a month, one full-platform user and unlimited basic users. Neither plan leaves much room to grow.

When does SigNoz become cheaper than Grafana Cloud Pro?

At about 21,100 active series with one-minute sampling, or roughly 2,100 series per host across 10 hosts. Below that, Grafana Pro is cheaper. The crossover moves with the sample interval, so recompute it if your agents scrape every 15 seconds.

Does the 10-host result hold once logs are added?

Not necessarily. Datadog bills per GB ingested, SigNoz bills $0.30 per GB, Better Stack includes 40 GB in its Nano bundle, and Grafana meters processing, writes and retention separately. Price the same log volume on each tool before you choose.

How we checked these prices

We read the pricing pages of Datadog, Grafana Cloud, New Relic, Better Stack and SigNoz on October 10, 2026, and used the list rates each publishes in USD, on annual billing where the page offers it. The monitoring category count comes from Toolradar's monitoring guide, October 2026.

The scenario inputs (10 hosts, 1,000 series per host, one sample a minute, three users) are ours. The vendor rates are theirs. We left out Honeycomb, which prices by events and lists no per-event rate above its Pro allowance, and Axiom, which prices by data loaded in GB and does not map onto a host count.
