Best AI Coding Assistants for JetBrains IDEs 2026
Seven assistants that run inside IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand and the rest, compared on how they plug in, what a year costs and how much model usage the price buys.
JetBrains AI Pro is the best AI coding assistant for most JetBrains users in 2026: $100 a year buys unlimited code completion plus 10 monthly credits you can spend on Junie, Claude Agent, Codex or Gemini without leaving the IDE. GitHub Copilot at $10 a month is the pick for teams whose work already lives on GitHub, and Claude Code is the stronger agent for large refactors through its JetBrains plugin.
For a Google Cloud shop, Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $19 per user a month on an annual term. Augment Code charges a flat $20 a month for up to 50 seats, and Kilo Code is free and open source if you bring your own model key.

- 7 tools compared: JetBrains AI (Junie and AI chat), GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, Augment Code, Kilo Code, Cline
- GitHub Copilot (best for: Teams whose repos, issues and reviews already run on GitHub): Free (2,000 completions a month); Pro $10/mo; Pro+ $39/mo; Business $19 per seat a month.
- Claude Code (best for: Developers running large multi-file refactors who want the agent's edits in the IDE diff viewer): Included with Claude Pro at $20/mo ($17/mo billed yearly), higher Max and Team plans.
- Gemini Code Assist (best for: Teams on Google Cloud that want completion and code generation tied to their GCP account): Standard $19/user/mo yearly ($22.80 monthly); Enterprise $45/user/mo yearly ($54 monthly).
A JetBrains developer shops for AI differently from a VS Code user, because the IDE already knows your project: its index, inspections and refactorings are the reason you pay for it. The right assistant uses that index instead of fighting it, and the field split in 2026 between JetBrains' own credit plans, plugins from model vendors and open-source agents you point at any key.
Devshot data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracked 179 AI coding tools on October 17, 2026, and 88% of them are free, freemium or open source. This list keeps the seven with a current JetBrains plugin or built-in support, because an assistant that cannot see the IDE's index wastes the license you already pay for. Every price below was read on the vendor's own pricing page on October 18, 2026. For the editor-agnostic ranking, see our best AI coding assistants guide.

- Works with any paid Claude plan, with no separate API key.
Cons
- The plugin is still labeled beta and needs the CLI installed separately.

- Standard's fee comes back as the same amount of monthly usage across models, Context Engine and compute.

Kilo Code
Open-source agent with JetBrains, VS Code and CLI builds that runs on any model, local ones included.
- Pricing
- Free open-source plugin (bring your own key); Teams $15/user/mo; optional prepaid Kilo Pass.

What it is
An AI coding assistant for JetBrains is a plugin or built-in service that completes code, answers questions about your project and runs agents that edit files, inside IntelliJ-based IDEs such as IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, PhpStorm and Rider.
Three delivery models exist. JetBrains AI is built into the IDE and sells credits that pay for models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI at API rates. Vendor plugins (Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, Augment) bring their own subscription. Open-source agents (Kilo Code, Cline) run on whichever model key you supply, and JetBrains' Agent Client Protocol lets you sign in to more than 25 outside agents, including Cursor, Codex and Copilot, from the same AI chat window.
Why it matters
The billing model decides your real cost more than the sticker. Credit plans convert your fee into metered model usage, so a heavy agent week can drain a month's allowance in days, while a flat seat fee hides the meter until a rate limit appears. Knowing how many dollars of usage each plan includes is the only fair way to compare them.
Integration depth matters too. A plugin that opens its edits in the IDE's own diff viewer and reads its inspection results fits the way JetBrains users review code. One that only runs in a terminal tab asks you to give up the IDE's strengths, and that is a poor trade for anyone paying for an Ultimate or Pro license.
Key features to look for
Pricing
For one developer, the yearly bill runs from $0 on Kilo Code, which costs nothing beyond model usage, to $468 on Copilot Pro+, before any extra usage. In between sit JetBrains AI Pro, Copilot Pro at $120 a year, Claude Pro at $17 a month on a yearly plan, Gemini Code Assist Standard at $228 a year at the annual rate, and JetBrains AI Ultimate. The usage included per dollar is the number that separates them.
Our calculation from the vendor pages: AI Pro returns 120 credits a year ($120 of model use) for its fee, 1.2 dollars of usage per dollar paid, and AI Ultimate 420 credits for $300, or 1.4. Copilot Pro returns $180 of AI credits a year for $120 (1.5) and Pro+ $840 for $468 (1.8). Augment Standard returns exactly its fee, $240 of usage for $240 a year, but that pool covers up to 50 people. Credit units differ by vendor, so treat these ratios as a guide to allowance size, not model quality.
For a team of five on annual terms, Copilot Business and Gemini Code Assist Standard each come to $1,140 a year, Kilo Teams to $900 before inference, and Augment Business to $1,200 with the same amount of shared usage over the year. Prices were checked on October 18, 2026 on the JetBrains AI, GitHub Copilot and Copilot plans docs, Claude, Gemini Code Assist, Augment, Kilo Code and Cline pages. JetBrains notes that its displayed prices are approximate and the final price shows at checkout.

The bottom line
Most JetBrains users should start with JetBrains AI Pro: it is native, it covers four agents from one credit pool and it costs less per year than any paid seat plan on this list. Choose GitHub Copilot when your team lives on GitHub and wants admin controls, Claude Code when big refactors are the job and you already pay Anthropic, and Gemini Code Assist when Google Cloud is your billing home. Augment Code fits a small team that wants one flat bill, while Kilo Code and Cline serve developers and enterprises that want open source and their own model keys.
