Replit vs Lovable 2026: Code-First or Prompt-First?

Replit vs Lovable in 2026: Core at $20 vs Pro at $25 a month, how each meters AI work, what a solo builder and a 5-person team pay, and who should pick which.

Replit vs Lovable 2026: Code-First or Prompt-First?

Pick Replit if you want to see and own the code while an agent helps: Core costs $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) and runs a full cloud workspace with up to 5 builders. Pick Lovable if you want a working web app from prompts and rarely open a file: Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits ($21 billed yearly). Prices verified on both vendors' pricing pages and docs on 18 October 2026.

The two products look alike in a demo, since both take a sentence and return a running app. They are built for different people. Replit is a cloud IDE that grew an agent: the editor, the shell, the database and the deploy target are all in view, and the agent works inside them. Lovable is an agent that grew an editor: the chat is the product, and the code is something you can open, edit and download on a paid plan.

Toolradar data: Toolradar, the software directory we run, tracks 144 app builders, and 85 of them offer a freemium tier, as of October 2026. Replit sits in a different list as well: it is listed as an alternative to 34 other tools and ranks #4 of 131 in IDE and code editors on its Toolradar page, which is the code-first identity this comparison turns on.

What one builder pays

For a solo builder billed yearly, Replit Core costs $216 a year and Lovable Pro at 100 credits costs $250. The sticker gap is small. What the plan buys is the real difference.

Replit Core includes a $20 monthly credit toward the more capable models, and Free Mode lets Core subscribers run everyday Agent work at no extra cost within an allowance. Paid work in Power or Max mode uses effort-based pricing, and Replit asks for confirmation before a paid action starts. Those same credits also pay for publishing, storage and databases, so a busy published app draws on the same balance as the agent.

Lovable Pro gives 100 monthly credits plus 5 daily build credits, a 20-credit monthly Cloud grant for hosting and small grants for in-app AI. Lovable publishes example costs per message: making a button gray costs 0.50 credits, adding sign-up and login 1.20, and building a landing page with three generated images 1.70. At that last rate, the 100 monthly credits cover roughly 58 landing-page-sized requests before the daily credits, which adds up to a real month of building for one person.

The catch on Lovable is the ladder. Pro runs from 100 to 10,000 credits, and the price per credit stays flat through the 800-credit tier: 400 credits cost $100 a month, the same as Replit Pro. The catch on Replit is variability: effort-based pricing means a complex request costs more than a simple one, and the bill depends on how much paid-mode work the agent does.

What a team pays

Team pricing is where the two models diverge most.

Team setup Replit plan Replit, per month (yearly billing) Lovable plan Lovable, per month (yearly billing)
1 to 5 builders, light to moderate use Core $18 Pro, 100 credits $21
Up to 15 builders, heavier agent use Pro $90 Pro, 400 credits $84
A team that needs SSO Enterprise, contact sales Not published Business, 100 credits $42

Neither vendor charges per seat at these tiers. Replit Core lets you invite up to 5 builders with no separate team subscription, and Pro raises that to 15 with pooled credits and budget controls. Lovable workspaces support unlimited members on every plan and price only by credits, so the bill grows with usage, not headcount.

The SSO line is the one that decides many company purchases. Lovable puts single sign-on, a security center and workspace data excluded from model training by default in Business, at twice the Pro price per credit tier. Replit puts SSO, SCIM and audit logs in Enterprise, which has no list price, though Replit lets an existing account upgrade to it without contacting sales. A company with an identity-provider policy can budget Lovable from the pricing table; on Replit it learns the price only at upgrade or from sales.

Usage limits: where the bill surprises people

Both products sell AI work through credits, and both have rules that shape the bill.

  • Lovable credits expire. Monthly plan credits expire two months after they are issued; on annual plans, one month after the annual period ends. Top-up credits last 12 months. Daily build credits expire at the end of each day.
  • Lovable's Business plan costs more per credit, not more per action. Lovable states that hosting and in-app AI cost the same on Business as on Pro; only the subscription price per credit is higher.
  • Replit Pro credits roll over for two months. Replit's docs list rollover as a Pro-only feature, and Pro offers tiered credits with discounts on larger tiers.
  • Replit bills third-party AI at the provider's rate. When Agent uses paid APIs behind the scenes, Replit deducts them from your credits at the provider's public API rate.
  • Lovable checks in on long runs. A single build message can run for up to 10 hours, and Lovable pauses at a credit check-in level, 20 credits by default, before continuing.

Both let admins cap spend: Lovable through usage limits and alerts on every paid plan, Replit through usage alerts and budgets. Set them on day one, because an agent left running on a vague prompt is the fastest way to burn a month of credits.

Code, hosting and lock-in

Replit is the stronger choice for a developer who expects to take the project elsewhere. The workspace is a full cloud development environment, the agent edits real files you can read, and the Secrets tool keeps credentials out of the code. Core lifts publishing from 1 app on the free Starter plan, which expires after 30 days, to unlimited published apps, and removes the "Made with Replit" badge.

Lovable gives code access too, but it is gated. Editing and downloading code requires Pro, as do custom domains and removing the "Edit with Lovable" badge. Lovable states that you own the apps and code you build. The practical difference is where the work happens: on Lovable you steer the code through prompts and drop into it when needed; on Replit the code is the primary surface and the agent is a collaborator.

Hosting follows the same split. Replit bills published apps, databases and outbound data from your credits, which suits a developer who wants to choose a publishing option per app. Lovable runs apps on Lovable Cloud, and its pricing FAQ says the included grant covers hosting for most small or new apps, with heavier traffic drawing on the credit balance.

Winner by dimension

Dimension Winner Why
Cheapest entry Replit Core costs less than Lovable Pro at both billing cycles
Large team on one plan Lovable Unlimited members against Replit's 5 and 15 builder caps
Published SSO price Lovable Business lists its price; Replit Enterprise does not
Working in the code Replit Full IDE, shell and database next to the agent
Prompt-only building Lovable Chat is the main interface, with per-message cost shown
Credit flexibility Replit Pro Two-month rollover on unused credits

Who should pick which

Pick Replit if you are a developer, a student learning to code or a technical founder who wants the agent's output in a real workspace, plans to move the code to your own infrastructure later, or wants 10 parallel agent tasks on Pro. Pick Lovable if you are a founder, designer or product manager who wants a working web app without opening an editor, needs SSO at a published price, or wants to invite a whole team without hitting a seat cap.

Both have free tiers worth trying before paying: Replit's Starter plan with daily Agent credits and one published app, and Lovable's Free plan with 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month. Our Replit review and Lovable review cover each product in depth, Replit pricing and Lovable pricing break down every tier, and the best vibe coding tools ranking sets both against Bolt.new and the rest of the field. How we compared

Replit prices come from Replit's pricing page and plan details from its Core, Pro and AI billing documentation. Lovable prices come from its subscription plans and plans and credits documentation and the Lovable pricing page. All were read on 18 October 2026. Monthly figures on yearly billing are the vendors' own; totals multiply them by 12 and exclude taxes and usage beyond included credits. Neither product was run for this page; it compares what each vendor publishes.

FAQ

Replit vs Lovable: which should I choose in 2026?

Choose Replit if you want a full cloud IDE where an agent edits code you can see, starting with the Core plan. Choose Lovable if you want to build web apps mainly through prompts, starting with Pro at 100 credits. Developers usually prefer Replit; non-technical founders usually prefer Lovable.

Which is cheaper, Replit or Lovable?

At the entry tier Replit is cheaper: Core is $18 a month billed yearly against $21 for Lovable Pro. At the top self-serve tier the gap closes, since Replit Pro and Lovable Pro with 400 credits both cost $100 billed monthly. Usage beyond included credits changes both bills.

Does Lovable charge per user?

No. Lovable workspaces support unlimited members on all plans, and every member shares the workspace's credits. Replit also avoids per-seat fees but caps builders at 5 on Core and 15 on Pro.

Can I export my code from Lovable?

Yes, on a paid plan. Editing and downloading code requires Pro, Business or Enterprise, and Lovable states you own the code you build. On Replit the code lives in a workspace you control from the first prompt.

Which one includes SSO?

Lovable includes SSO on Business, which starts at $50 a month for 100 credits. Replit includes SSO, SCIM and audit logs only on Enterprise, which has no public price.

Do Replit and Lovable have free plans?

Yes. Replit's Starter plan includes daily Agent credits and one published app that stays live for 30 days. Lovable's Free plan includes 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, plus a monthly Cloud grant.
