Datadog Pricing 2026: Per-Host Costs, APM and Logs
Datadog pricing in 2026: Infrastructure from $15 per host, APM from $31, logs from $0.10 per GB, with full monthly bills costed for a 10-host and a 50-host stack.

Datadog costs $15 per host a month for Infrastructure Pro and $23 for Enterprise when billed annually ($18 and $27 on-demand), with a free plan for up to 5 hosts. APM adds $31 per host on annual billing, and logs cost $0.10 per GB ingested plus $1.70 per million events indexed for 15 days. A 10-host startup running all three pays about $575 a month.
Every price here was read on Datadog's pricing page on October 19, 2026, in USD. The per-host numbers are the easy part. The bill is decided by three things the headline hides: whether you commit to annual billing, how many logs you index rather than ingest, and how many containers and custom metrics each host carries. This page costs a full Datadog invoice at two team sizes, so you can see which line grows fastest. The product verdict is in our Datadog review.
Toolradar data: Datadog is listed as an alternative to 128 other tools on Toolradar, the software directory we run, which makes it the most cross-shopped of the 59 log management tools tracked there as of October 2026. Buyers compare it with everything, which is why the price question comes up so often. The directory record is Datadog on Toolradar.

"Billed annually" is the monthly rate on an annual commitment; "on-demand" is the month-to-month rate. Datadog lists most figures as "starting at" prices, and offers volume discounts above 500 hosts a month through sales.
How much does Datadog cost per host?
A host is any physical or virtual OS instance Datadog monitors: a server, a VM or a Kubernetes node. Infrastructure Pro is the entry paid plan, and Enterprise adds $8 per host for machine learning alerts, live process views and more administrative control. Pro is enough for most startups; Enterprise earns its premium once compliance or a large ops team needs the governance features.
The host count is not a snapshot. Datadog's billing documentation says hosts are metered hourly and the bill uses the highest count after discarding the top 1% of hours. That protects you from a short spike, but an autoscaling group that sits at 40 hosts for a week bills as 40 hosts, not as its monthly average.
The free plan covers up to 5 hosts with 1-day metric retention. It works for a side project or a trial; a production team needs the 15-month retention of Pro to look back at last quarter's incident.
What does Datadog APM cost?
APM is priced per host that sends traces, and the listed rate assumes Infrastructure Monitoring is attached to the same host. A host that runs only an uninstrumented database or cache is not an APM host, so you pay APM only on the hosts running your instrumented services. APM Pro adds Data Streams Monitoring for queues and pipelines, and APM Enterprise adds the Continuous Profiler; both are sold standalone too, starting at $15 and $19 per host.
Each APM host includes 150 GB of ingested spans and 1 million indexed spans a month, pooled across all APM hosts. Above that, ingestion costs $0.10 per GB, and extra indexed spans with 15-day retention cost $1.70 per million (7-day and 30-day options exist at $1.27 and $2.50). Pooling matters: one chatty service can borrow the allowance of a quiet one.
On-demand billing removes that cushion. Datadog's pricing FAQ says on-demand span usage is metered hourly against an hourly share of the allotment, so a traffic burst inside one hour is billed even if the rest of the month is quiet. Teams with spiky traffic save twice with an annual commitment: on the per-host rate and on span overages.
How much do Datadog logs cost?
Logs are billed in two separate steps, and confusing them is how log bills surprise people. Ingestion is charged per GB on everything you send, including logs you only archive, and it is the cheap half. Indexing, which makes logs searchable for 15 days, is $1.70 per million events on annual billing and $2.55 on-demand.
Indexing is the expensive half. Ingesting 1,000 GB costs $100; indexing 200 million events costs $340 on annual billing. The practical rule: send everything, index only what you alert on or search during incidents, and archive the rest to your own S3, Azure or GCS bucket, which Datadog does not bill for forwarding.
Two cheaper tiers cover logs you need to keep but rarely read. Flex Logs Starter stores events for 3 to 15 months at $0.60 per million, with compute bundled below 2 billion events a month, and Flex Storage starts at $0.05 per million events stored, paired with Flex Compute capacity that Datadog prices through sales. Log forwarding to other destinations costs $0.25 per GB per destination. If you commit to a monthly log volume and exceed it, Datadog bills the excess at 50% above the annual price.
Two Datadog bills, costed
We built two monthly bills from the printed prices. Every unit price is Datadog's; the host counts and log volumes are our assumptions, stated in each row. Log volumes in GB and in events are entered separately because the ratio depends on your log size.
A 10-host startup: Infrastructure Pro and APM on all 10 hosts, 300 GB of logs ingested and 50 million events indexed for 15 days.
| Line | Billed annually | On-demand |
|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure Pro, 10 hosts | $150 | $180 |
| APM, 10 hosts | $310 | $360 |
| Log ingestion, 300 GB | $30 | $30 |
| Log indexing, 50M events | $85 | $127.50 |
| Monthly total | $575 | $697.50 |
A 50-host scale-up: 50 hosts on Infrastructure, APM on the 20 hosts that run services, 1,000 GB of logs ingested and 200 million events indexed.
| Line | Pro tiers, annual | Pro tiers, on-demand | Enterprise tiers, annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure, 50 hosts | $750 | $900 | $1,150 |
| APM, 20 hosts | $620 | $720 | $800 |
| Log ingestion, 1,000 GB | $100 | $100 | $100 |
| Log indexing, 200M events | $340 | $510 | $340 |
| Monthly total | $1,810 | $2,230 | $2,390 |
Three things stand out. The annual commitment saves about 18% on the startup bill and 19% on the larger one, so a team that knows it will stay should not run on-demand. APM is the biggest line on the startup bill and Infrastructure on the larger one, which is why instrumenting only the hosts that run services matters. And moving the 50-host stack to Enterprise tiers adds $580 a month, mostly on Infrastructure, for features many teams never open.
Hidden costs that grow the bill
The per-host price includes allowances, and the overages are where invoices drift.
- Containers. Each host license includes 5 or 10 containers depending on the plan. Extra containers cost $0.002 per container per hour, or $1 a month prepaid. A Kubernetes node running 25 containers on a 5-container allowance adds 20 containers, about $29 a month on hourly billing or $20 prepaid.
- Custom metrics. Pro includes 100 per host and Enterprise 200, counted across the whole account. Datadog does not publish the price beyond that allowance: it bills by usage and quotes through sales.
- Indexed logs. A debug log level left on in production multiplies indexed events, and indexing is the expensive half of the log bill.
- Spans. Above the pooled allowance, every extra GB of ingested spans is billed at the overage rate in the APM section, and on-demand accounts are metered hour by hour.
None of these appear in the headline price. Set log exclusion filters and span ingestion controls before the first invoice, not after it.
Is Datadog worth the price?
For a team that wants metrics, traces and logs in one product with 1,000+ integrations, Datadog's unit prices are printed in full on its own page, so the bill can be modelled before you sign. The risk is not the rate card; it is that every product is metered separately, so the bill grows with each feature a team turns on.
Small teams on a tight budget should compare first. Our Datadog alternatives guide prices the same 10-host infrastructure load on cheaper tools, the best monitoring tools and best observability tools for startups rankings cover the field, and logs-heavy teams should read best log management tools. Teams that only need error tracking should read Sentry pricing, a narrower tool billed per event; New Relic and Grafana Cloud have their own reviews in New Relic review and Grafana Cloud review.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Datadog cost per month?
Infrastructure Pro costs $15 per host a month billed annually or $18 on-demand, and Enterprise $23 or $27. A 10-host startup with Infrastructure Pro, APM on every host, 300 GB of logs ingested and 50 million events indexed pays about $575 a month on annual billing, based on Datadog's prices read in October 2026.
Does Datadog have a free plan?
Yes. The free Infrastructure plan covers up to 5 hosts with core metrics, dashboards and 1-day metric retention. APM and logs are separate paid products, so the free plan suits trials and hobby projects rather than production monitoring.
How much is Datadog APM per host?
APM starts at $31 per host a month on annual billing with Infrastructure Monitoring attached, or $36 on-demand. APM Pro costs $35 and APM Enterprise $40 on annual billing. Each APM host includes 150 GB of ingested spans and 1 million indexed spans a month, pooled across hosts.
How is Datadog log pricing calculated?
Datadog charges $0.10 per GB to ingest logs and, separately, $1.70 per million events to index them with 15-day retention on annual billing ($2.55 on-demand). Archiving to your own cloud storage is not billed, so indexing only the logs you search is the main way to control the bill.
What is the difference between annual and on-demand Datadog billing?
Annual billing is a committed monthly rate, while on-demand is month-to-month and every per-host rate is higher, as the price table shows. In our two costed bills the annual commitment saved about 18% and 19%, and on-demand span usage is metered hourly instead of pooled across the month.
How does Datadog count hosts for billing?
Datadog meters hosts every hour and bills on the highest hourly count after excluding the top 1% of hours. A short spike does not raise the bill, but a sustained scale-up does, even if it lasts only part of the month.
Sources and method
We read Datadog's pricing page on October 19, 2026, including the Infrastructure, APM and Log Management sections and their FAQs, and Datadog's billing documentation for host metering; allowances are listed on Datadog's allotments page. Prices are USD list prices before any negotiated discount. The two bills multiply printed unit prices by host counts and volumes we chose as typical; container overage uses 730 hours a month, the average Datadog's own pricing FAQ uses for hourly allotments. The Toolradar figure comes from Datadog on Toolradar; rivals have records there too, such as Sentry on Toolradar.
